We haven’t spoken since we returned to the cabin. Even though my body was numb from the fall chill outside, I took a cold shower to tamp down my urges, the drops stinging the horniness right out of me.

I’ve never wanted anyone so badly, and I’ve only known her for a few days. Although, Graham’s talked about her enough over the years, making me feel like I’ve known her longer.

She has this way about her too. This inherent light and comfort she offers to those around her, and instead of being blinded by it, it’s more like the glow at the end of a dark tunnel.

She’s my way out.

Out of what, though?

I’ve never needed anyone for longer than a night. Ginger and I have an understanding that works for both of us. One that allows me the satisfaction of a warm bed for a few hours. Otherwise, she and I would’ve parted ways already. Instead, we enjoy each other’s company for a night here and there, and when it’s time to leave, there are no hard feelings.

Her job is demanding, and I’m wrapped up in the company and don’t want the commitment of a relationship.

I’ve never even been in a relationship.

At this point, I don’t know what the word even means.

But Tessa is the commitment type. She’s not the kind of girl to settle for a fling—the only thing I can offer.

I push off the dresser, my jaw clenched.

There’s too much working against us.

When I emerge from my room, damp hair curling at my forehead and tickling me, I find Tessa bouncing around the kitchen, her movements as carefree as her loose hair. Her wet locks are wavy and tousled over to one side, and she’s in a large tee, the front of which is tied in a knot at the waistband of her leggings.

She’s wearing her glasses again too.

The square ones that make her look like a sexy professor.

Wild thoughts of her in a pencil skirt and those glasses fill my head. I’d hike the tight material up over her hips and bend her over an office desk while I stood behind her and—

I grind my teeth, shaking myself out of it.

I’m just wound up, is all. I almost had her lips on mine barely two hours ago, and I’m tense. I’ll be fine. I can admire her from here, and it’ll have to be enough.

Light rain has started again, ticking against the glass windows in soft knocks, and the gray clouds dim the space in here. It’s only midafternoon, yet with the dark sky through the large windows, it seems like it’s much later.

None of it stops Tessa’s positive mood, though.

I lean against the doorframe as she cracks an egg into a mixing bowl while singing quietly. She doesn’t seem to notice I’m here and proceeds to measure sugar into a cup, her lips still moving and her hips swaying.

When she turns to grab another ingredient, she lifts her gaze to lock on mine and stops. “How long
